What are you doing for self-care this summer?

Looking after yourself in summer can look like you’re not doing much at all.  And that’s ok!

Summer is the season of the Fire element in Chinese medicine. A time for connecting and meaningful relationships. Relaxing. Having fun. It's more about being than doing. Taking moments to be still and present will nourish your Fire element energy, helping your body to balance.

If you’re finding you’re on cloud nine one minute, down in the dumps the next, and struggling to connect with those around you, your Fire element energy could be out of balance.

Tips for staying balanced in summer

 Ground yourself

Fire element energy can be flighty and unfocused, making it hard to stay present. Yoga, especially restorative practice, Pilates, meditation, breathing, sound baths, all help to keep you grounded, focused.

        Eat bitter foods

Bitter foods drain heat from the body. This helps balance high seasonal body temperatures and protects us from too much Fire element energy. Asparagus, endive, broccoli, kale, cauliflower, lettuce, scallions.

       Relax

After the push of spring, relax into the ease and flow of summer. Lie in the sun, restore yourself, and let life unfold without too much intervention.

Do things that bring you joy

Embracing joy, the emotion of summer. Doing activities, being with people that spark levity and laughter. Go have some fun!
